One of the most exciting and rewarding part of teaching lessons is the knowledge that we are helping to shape and grow tomorrow's horsemen, and we take it seriously!
Our riders start as young as 2 years old!
We even offer a Mommy and Me and a Pony program twice a year for the little ones that are just testing the waters.
Our lessons focus on safety, horsemanship and Equitation.
We fully believe that function develops form and form aids function.
We ensure that our riders meet our expected milestones before rushing them to the next, challenging level, whatever that may be.
26 years at our current location and with our wonderful instructors, has helped our riders and horses to achieve their equestrian goals, proving our approach works.
If you are a beginner just getting your start, we got you. Already seasoned and looking to improve and compete? We got you!
Eleanor Hephner has been riding and training horses and riders for most of her life. She attended Maryland University (Potomac Horse Center) and followed that with a job at the Fairfield Hunt Club.
Gaining skill and knowledge from amazing horsemen including Emerson Burr and Elaine Wright Moffit, she passes her passion for the animals and the sport on to every one of her students.
Marti has multiple horses of her own and enjoys riding them with her students.
Jessie Arrowsmith has ridden her entire life and has spent more time in the barn than out of it. Specializing in beginners, she has the skill and knowledge to take riders to the 3' level, confidently. She loves seeing her students grow and develop and lives for the "ah ha" moments.
Jessie enjoys coordinating clinics and educational experiences within the barn for her students.
There's so much more to do in the barn than just ride.
Our lessons give our riders the opportunity to build skills needed to be more than just a hobby rider.
Time spent in and out of the ring, working in the field to build strength and endurance, through the woods to relax and enjoy their mounts and nature or in the pond to cool off, are all valuable learning opportunities as well as a world of fun.
Skills built out of the ring easily translate into skills riders will use for whatever goals they hope to attain.
Our lower field houses a fun, introductory style cross country course for riders to test their skills and bravery. Learning to gallop on the flat or over fences is such a great way to strengthen legs and build a rider's endurance, as well as a horse or pony's!
Our riders learn to take care of their equipment and their horses. Time spent working in the barn quickly translates to work ethic, responsibility as well as compassion or the animals... all necessary ingredients in the making of a top horseman.
And what fun would all of this be without the amazing relationships we build? Horse and rider, rider and rider and rider and instructor.
These interactions are not only important in the moment but as riders develop and grow throughout their lives, barn relationships are the best relationships.
We pride ourselves in being able to accommodate riders of every level. That means that we attend shows of every level.
Getting started in the competitive side of this sport is time consuming and expensive. We are happy to be able to offer horse shows that have family oriented riders in mind, right on the farm.
We care about the results. Less so about the ribbons. We place a lot of value on the takeaway. It's about the ride.
